Former city councilman Vincent Voelkel visited City Hall on Friday to pick up a mayoral candidate petition packet and a candidate application form. Voelkel signaled that he intends to run for mayor. This is the second time that Voelkel has received a packet from the city secretary’s office; he first pulled a packet in October 2019. A request for comment was not immediately returned by Mr. Voelkel.

Candidates can begin submitting completed applications on January 15, and February 14 is the last day to submit an application for a place on the ballot. Election day is May 2.

Voelkel served as Place 1 Councilmember from May 2016 to May 2018. He did not seek a second term. The current mayor is Bill Blackburn. Blackburn signaled his intention to seek reelection by picking up an application on Thursday.
