The first concrete was poured for the River Trail extension to Schreiner University on Wednesday. Approximately 800 linear feet of the trail was poured by JK Bernhard Construction Co. and their subcontractors for the new leg of the trail that begins at G Street trailhead and ends on the campus of Schreiner University. JK Bernhard Construction Co. posted this video to document the progress.

Trailhead Venue Coming Soon

In December, Schreiner University announced plans for a community gathering spot on the Schreiner campus near the trailhead of the River Trail. A partnership with local brewery Pint & Plow has been established, and owner Jeremy Walther stated, “We are in the process of developing everything from custom blended coffees to custom crafted beers,” for the establishment.

The rock house that was the former home of Texas Music Heritage Foundation will be converted into a history and visitor kiosk. Along with the new hang out, plans include an outdoor stage for concerts and performances, sand volleyball courts, horseshoes, washer pits, and areas for food trucks among other amenities.

The venue is expected to open on April 17, in conjunction with the river trail ribbon cutting and Schreiner’s homecoming events known as RECALL.
